Pass it on: MAKEUP DOESN'T MAKE YOU SHALLOW

(Another accidental hiatus, sorry about that)
I come to you today to discuss a thought, and that thought is that people who think women who wear make up do it to please others are insane. You need help. There is no doubt that women wear makeup to look presentable but that isn't the ONLY REASON. This came to me because I saw on both twitter and facebook that people had shared a link to an Elite Daily article called "The 5 Things That Make A Woman More Beautiful Than Her Makeup Does" which in a sense is nice but as soon as I started reading it, it just made me mad. It made it seem like wearing makeup is the most shallow and conceited thing someone could do.

There is no handbook for women that say that "you must wear makeup to impress men", it's a personal choice and it might be far-fetched and  wild to think that maybe people wear makeup because THEY LIKE TO WEAR MAKEUP. Right off the bat, number one on the list is "her passions" and let me tell you something, makeup IS my passion. It has been ever since I was younger and never once have I thought "I need to do this to impress a boy". If I wanted to impress a boy do you THINK I would have worn all the eyeliner that I did back in 2008? No. I did that because at the time it's what I liked. This is what I love, it's what I want to make a career out of.

Number two on the list is "her compassion" which made it sound like wearing eyeliner and lipstick made you a shallow monster. Wanting to look nice does not correlate with whether you're a good person. It does not mean you don't put others first. All it means is that you like to look like you've gotten some sleep at night.

Number three, "Her Mind". WEARING MAKEUP DOESN'T MEAN YOU AREN'T SMART. What kind of world do we live in where you can't be beautiful and intelligent? What does that say to young girls, "you can't look up to this person because they wear makeup all the time and must be extremely vapid". As I talked about in a post before about Victoria's Secret models, most never aspired to be models. Adriana Lima wanted to be a doctor before getting into modelling by mistake. There is nothing wrong with wanting a career from something that you love and enjoy.

Number four, "Her Fun-Loving Spirit".  This one made me the most angry, "If a woman won’t go skinny dipping because she’s afraid of ruining her carefully-crafted bedroom eye look, then she’s simply another example of someone with mixed up priorities. But the woman who doesn't wear makeup is fearless and unafraid to embrace much of what comes her way." I'm sorry but there are lots of reasons why I wouldn't want to go skinny dipping and none of them have to do with my "carefully crafted bedroom eye look". WHY WOULD I BE GOING TO A LAKE WITH A BEDROOM EYE? The thing about wearing makeup is that you know different looks for different times. If I was going near a lake I wouldn't be wasting my time and makeup on my eye shadow

I am not even going to continue because quite honestly, its complete bullshit. We shouldn't be putting women who take the time to look nice in a box. Not wearing makeup makes you no better than women who do take the time to put on makeup. These articles shouldn't be written because what does that teach girls? You can't wear eyeliner because people will think you're shallow. Girls should be taught to love themselves with and without makeup. Makeup could be what they love, and that shouldn't be frowned upon. They should be proud if they are able to properly use liquid eyeliner or can pull off a red lip. It doesn't mean they won't like to read books and care about the well-being of others. It means they like to do i
